Carl Izzo, father of MSU basketball head coach Tom Izzo, dies at 90

Carl Izzo, the father of current MSU head basketball coach Tom Izzo, died on Monday, a MSU spokesman confirmed to multiple media outlets on Monday evening. He passed away in Appleton, Wisconsin and Carl Izzo was 90 years old.

Carl Izzo’s funeral is scheduled for Sunday at Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral home in Iron Mountain, Michigan. A time for the service has not yet been released.

The news of Carl Izzo’s passing came as Tom Izzo and the rest of the MSU men’s basketball team landed in Iowa City on Monday afternoon.

Izzo is slated to coach his No. 1 ranked Spartans on Tuesday night, who are scheduled to open up their Big Ten schedule against the Iowa Hawkeyes, with tipoff set for 9 p.m.

Carl Izzo is remembered by his wife Dorothy and their three children, Tom Izzo, and his two sisters.
