MSU senior and women's soccer player named Rhodes Scholar

On Sunday, Sarah Kovan, a comparative cultures and politics and human biology senior, was named a Rhodes Scholar for 2016.

Kovan is the only Rhodes Scholar from Michigan. The prestigious scholarship is an international postgraduate award for students to study at the University of Oxford in Oxford, England. 

Kovan will pursue an M. Phil. in Development Studies while at Oxford. According to the press release, she is passionate about understanding and helping in issues of global health. 

She studied abroad at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and spent her free time serving in Israel’s national ambulance corps. In Michigan, Kovan has provided care to local hospice patients.

In addition to her academic career, Kovan plays for the varsity soccer team as a starting midfielder.

Kovan is one of four 2016 Rhodes Scholars from Big Ten schools.
