MSU has collaborated with the Collegiate Licensing Company to participate in the College Colors Challenge. This social media challenge allows students, faculty and alumni to post pictures and videos of them decked in green and white to garner more support for the university.

Challengers with the most festive and creative pictures have the chance to win the grand prize, which is a free, all-expenses paid trip to the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

This will be MSU's first time participating in this challenge, however, as Director of Licensing at Michigan State Samantha Stevens said, the two just partnered. Still, she said she's excited about this as it is great way to start off the school year.

"This is a great way for athletics, the university and alumni to really get around a unifying message," Stevens said. "It's a great way to show school spirit and pride."

Although the competition kicked-off on August 10, it is a season long program that rates the popularity of contestants on a weekly basis. As the university gears up for its first game Friday, Stevens feels that participating in this program is another great reason for students to wear school colors.

"It is a really great way to kick off back-to-school," Stevens said. "It's something everyone can get around and it's a great way to remind people to pick up new merchandise for the season."

Though people vie to win the grand prize, Jim Donatelli, Assistant Director of Sales and Marketing at MSU, said this challenge is beneficial to the university as well.

"The biggest thing is this challenge gets support for the school, not just from people in East Lansing, but across the nation," Donatelli said. "It allows fans to showcase support for the university."

Donatelli said participation in this event is a great way branding and excitement out there for the university. Since this program reaches across the nation, he feels this is a great way for people to show love for the school and boost its name.

According to the College Colors website, there are several ways for people get involved, from monthly challenges, family photos, and of course, a selfie. Spartan participants are encouraged to download the College Colors app for easier access to the competition. Stevens reminded everyone to be safe and have fun.

"Wear your colors on Friday, bleed green and white," Stevens said. "Let's have a great school year."
