Dragon boat race comes to Lansing

September 12, 2014

This weekend, the Women’s Center of Greater will be hosting a fundraiser, the third annual Capital City Dragon Boat Race, in Lansing.

Team members and attendees can expect an eventful weekend at Adado Riverfront Park.

On Sept. 13, practices will be held from 10:30am until around 5:00pm.

On Sept. 14, a few ceremonies will take place. A traditional Awakening the Dragons ceremony will start the gathering off, then a Pink Carnation Remembrance Ceremony will be held to honor those who have struggled or are currently struggling with cancer.

Following the ceremonies, the races will kick off at 8:30am.

According to Cindie Alwood, the director of the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing, many residents are looking forward to the event. There are 24 teams competing this, when last year only 12 teams attended.

Performances from Confucius Institutes in Michigan also will take place in order to celebrate their 10-year anniversary. Vendor Village and Panda’s Playland will open on the east side of the park for kids to enjoy.

Enjoy food that will be served throughout the day from the Good Bites food truck and Shimmy Shack.

Once the race is over, an award ceremony will be held in Vendor Village.
