Women's basketball defeats Indiana 56-46 on the road

January 21, 2013

An impressive all-around outing from sophomore guard Kiana Johnson powered MSU to a 56-46 win at Indiana Sunday afternoon.

Johnson paced MSU (16-2 overall, 4-1 Big Ten) with 15 points while adding five assists and four rebounds. The Spartans’ win begins a stretch that includes three road trips in the next four games.

On the heels of a career night Thursday against Iowa, junior guard Klarissa Bell had 12 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Jasmine Thomas finished with eight points and redshirt freshman forward Akyah Taylor had seven.

Junior forward Annalise Pickrel’s 3-pointer with 14:04 remaining in the first half gave the Spartans a lead they would hold onto the rest of the way.

MSU’s bench, led by Johnson, outscored Indiana’s (10-8, 1-4) reserves 26-12.

The defensive-minded Spartans took advantage of an Indiana team that entered the game with the conference’s lowest-scoring offense and were able to grow the lead to as many as 17 points in the second half.

MSU is back on the road this Thursday for its next matchup with Nebraska at 8 p.m.
