A public hearing was held to discuss changes to an ordinance that could pave a way for the development on the property formerly planned for City Center II.
The planning commission decided to defer the ordinance to the Feb. 27 meeting in order to discuss the issue more.
With new residential buildings being built and proposed, these amendments might help meet the increasing parking demands in the B-3 district in the city, which covers downtown East Lansing.
Council members said one of the challenges to the development on 100 and 124-140 W. Grand River Ave. has been with parking for the proposed development.
Planning and Zoning Administrator Darcy Schmitt said the changes to the ordinance are in response to the increasing interest in redevelopment in downtown East Lansing.
“Unfortunately right now we are having a very difficult time meeting the parking demands in the municipal parking structure,” she said.
If the changes are approved it could help lead the way for the proposed redevelopment on 100 and 124-140 W. Grand River Ave, as well as the property on 341 and 345 Evergreen Ave., to begin.
Both the 124-140 W.Grand River Ave. and 341 and 345 Evergreen Ave. properties are owned by City Center Two Project, LLC.
