Anti-affirmative action speaker coming to MSU today

November 12, 2008

The MSU chapter of Young Americans for Freedom will be hosting speaker Jennifer Gratz, who will speak on her stance against affirmative action. Gratz will be speaking from 8-9:30 p.m. today in 102 Conrad Hall.

Gratz served as the executive director of the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, a ballot initiative that successfully banned affirmative action in Michigan when it was passed in November of 2006. In 1997, Gratz sued the University of Michigan over its affirmative action policy. Gratz v. Bollinger was taken to the United States Supreme Court, which ruled the University of Michigan’s affirmative action policy unconstitutional.

Gratz is the first speaker that MSU YAF has hosted this year.
