Here we are: the final weeks of the academic year and, consequently, my final column. As I brainstormed for a topic for this week, I decided that my last column should be a culmination of the things that brought me to this point, something I really wanted to put out there while I had the opportunity and the platform.

Spartans respectful during break

Spring break in college is both a delighted and feared time across many communities. For many students, it is a time to get away from school, head somewhere warm with friends and enjoy age-appropriate beverages and free time not found during your average week of classes.

Student-athletes not fully funded

This week, I am writing in response to a comment collected from an MSU student in The State News article, “NCAA rejects scholarship cuts to student-athletes.” (SN 1/18) The comment suggested that NCAA student-athletes receive enough publicity already for their athletic participation, and the amount of money they save from their athletic aid in the form of tuition, book stipends and/or room and board should be enough. As a member of an Olympic sport team, I find this comment to be laughable.
