SN Style: Cargo out, plaid in
If you've paid any attention this summer, you may have noticed more and more people running around in plaid and striped shorts (not to mention a half million other designs). What's more, shorts this season are being crafted out of more than basic khaki and cotton fabrics - many brands have introduced styles utilizing acrylic, searsucker and linen (mmm, comfy). Designs have changed dramatically as well - cargo pockets are out (honestly, if you really need those to carry all your stuff, get a damn backpack). Shorts are being designed as straight and flowing - it's summertime, what could you possibly need to carry with you?
Lansing rocks out
Lansing When the gates at Common Ground Music Festival opened Monday evening, people scrambled to the front of the venue, where staff members were ready and waiting. "When they first came in, there was a mad dash for the front," said Robert Riley, a 1951 MSU graduate who was seating people in the lawn. Despite soaring temperatures, thousands of fans flocked to Adado Riverfront Park for the second night of music featuring Los Lonely Boys, Dutch Henry and Joshua and Jeremy Sprague at the West Sandbar. Common Ground, a festival grounded on national, contemporary live music is the Lansing area's premier summer cultural event.
Riv to host battle of the bands competition
Beginning July 24, The Riviera Cafe, 231 M.A.C. Ave., will host RivFest - a weekly battle of the bands for local acoustic musicians and bands.
