Dorms not completely worry free

Night reception was originally created as a way to monitor people trying to sneak into residence halls of the opposite sex, MSU night receptionist coordinator Alex Miller said.Now night receptionists’ responsibilities include checking side doors to make sure they aren’t propped open, swiping IDs and signing in guests.But some students say those responsibilities need to be taken more seriously.Doors are sometimes left open, IDs aren’t always needed to get in and students have found ways to beat the system.“We just knock on someone’s window and they open a door,” elementary education sophomore Brian Watkins said.

Contest rewards responsible recycling

Lansing - Two weeks ago, Lansing resident John Kanillopoolos didn’t have any extra trash bags to lend to his friend, but now he has more than enough money to buy some extras. Kanillopoolos was the latest winner of the Lansing Recycler of the Week contest, a program started two years ago by the operations and maintenance division of the city’s Public Service Department. Winners have an option of choosing a $100 cash prize or 75 green city trash bags, worth $125.
