Women's soccer improves to 5-0 with win over IPFW

MSU (5-0 overall) saw new faces make big plays Friday, and the Spartans got out to a quick start against IPFW and never looked back, defeating the Mastadons 3-1 at DeMartin Soccer Complex.Junior midfielder Sarah Kovan scored off of a free kick from junior defender Alexandra Gjonaj in the sixth minute for the Spartans.

Men's soccer begins season with 1-0 home victory over SMU

The men’s soccer team defeated SMU in their first game of the 2014 season on a mostly-sunny day in DeMartin Soccer Stadium, 1-0. The first half saw both teams struggle to generate much on offense with the only close opportunity coming from MSU’s senior midfielder Fatai Alashe on a nearly missed header at the 2:34 mark.

Women's soccer improves to 3-0 following victory over Eastern Michigan in home opener

Experience was key for the Spartans Friday afternoon, as three different upperclassmen scored in an early season home victory against in-state rival Eastern Michigan, 3-0.Junior forward Allyson Krause, senior midfielder Megan Marsack, and redshirt junior defender Rachel Van Poppelen scored for MSU (3-0 overall), as the Spartans maintained a perfect record.“Ally Krause played a great game.

Men's soccer to begin season this weekend against SMU, Florida International

This weekend marks the beginning of the season for the men’s soccer team. With two games scheduled this weekend — Aug. 29 against SMU and Aug. 31 against Florida International ­— the team will have a busy weekend.Despite two games this weekend, the team’s current focus is SMU. Despite SMU’s 3-12-2 record in the 2013 season, MSU will not look ahead of the Mustangs.

Women's soccer defeats San Diego State in season opener

The women’s soccer team kicked off its 2014 season last night, securing a 3-1 victory over San Diego State.The Spartans scored the first goal on a penalty kick by junior defender Mary Kathryn Fiebernitz at the 11th minute, and followed it up with another goal from redshirt junior forward Rachel VanPoppelen in the 29th minute.
