ASMSU proposes 2 bills to help textbook costs

Issues brought up in Tuesday’s ASMSU Academic Assembly meeting centered upon textbook costs and students struggling to pay for them. Christopher Kulesza, chairperson of the assembly, spoke in his State of the Assembly speech about the need to keep the organization’s commitment to fight for a watchful eye on what books are used in classes to help reduce the amount of books students need to buy.

Group wants students to stay dry

If a group of MSU students has its way, other students won’t shower today. Students for Peace and Justice — or SPJ — are sponsoring the No Shower Day in order to combat water waste. The purpose is to get students and the community thinking about the impact they have on water waste, said Maureen Nagy, a public relations officer for SPJ.

Dinner to teach proper etiquette

E.L.'s late-night eateries still reeling

More than a year after university officials mandated longer hours for residence hall cafeterias on campus, local business owners said they’re still feeling the effects of decreased late-night sales. Beginning in fall 2007, at least one cafeteria in every residence hall complex expanded its hours from 8 p.m.

Student organization hosts fry bread competition

On Saturday, seven people set out for the Nokomis Learning Center, 5153 Marsh Road, in Okemos, strapped on their aprons and competed for the title of best fry bread recipe. The North American Indigenous Students Organization, or NAISO, hosted the fry bread cook-off to advertise and raise money for its annual Pow-Wow of Love, scheduled for Feb. 21-22, 2009.

ASMSU concert to be discussed

Students could be tapping their toes to some new tunes on campus next spring — at least if a $65,000 concert gets the OK. Last week, ASMSU passed a bill through its Student Assembly Finance Committee, which would allocate $65,000 to a spring concert. Tonight, the bill will be discussed by the Student Assembly, where it could become the second major concert sponsored by ASMSU this school year.
