Contrary to statewide statistics released Monday indicating a drop in the incidence of drunken driving arrests, East Lansing saw a 40 percent increase from 2002 to 2003, up from 268 arrests to 376. State figures, released by the Michigan State Police, indicate the number of arrests for drunken driving over the same period went down 4 percent, from 57,789 to 55,746.
