Off-duty MSU PD sergeant saves stranded motorist

Even when off-duty, MSU police sergeant Maureen Kennedy is devoted to protecting and serving the community.  On Sunday April 26, at around 9 p.m., Kennedy was driving along I96 east of Okemos Road when she spotted a driver she suspected of being impaired.

Student assaulted at McDonalds on Thursday

A video has surfaced of a McDonald's worker punching an MSU student — the force of the blow knocking him to the ground — after an altercation the student had with employees at the McDonald's on Grand River Avenue. The incident happened around 3 a.m. Thursday and the student suffered non-life threatening injuries, East Lansing police Lt. Steve Gonzalez said.

ASMSU elections yield 3.3 percent voter turnout

1,264 students voted in this year’s ASMSU, MSU’s undergraduate student government’s general assembly election, which is over 1,000 less voters than in 2013, when the State News reported a 9.2 percent voter turnout. Members of ASMSU’s general assembly hold an important task of electing the new office of the president this week, which consists of six vice presidents and 1 president.

Record store day draws music fanatics to local stores

“It’s crazy to do all of this by hand,”kc said Jon Howardkc, the manager of Flat Black and Circular, as he looked at a stack of over 500 unboxed records. “But it’s fun and people enjoy shopping for this kind of stuff. It’s a happy place to work.” am

Mental health mural painting moved until summer

The week, which was held during the end of March and beginning of April, was meant to raise awareness and spark discussion regarding mental health. A mural was set to be painted during this time, but because of inclement weather and not having complete permission from all parties involved, it was postponed.
