MSU hosts mental health events for students and staff

With October being Disability Pride Month at Michigan State University, University Health and Wellbeing (UHW) is hosting plenty of events to honor and celebrate the contributions of the disability community, along with supporting mental health and wellness. Here is a list of events that will be going on all month.

Broad Care Center debuts in the Eppley Center

The Broad Care Center has made its debut at the Eppley Center, located between the Minskoff Pavilion and the North Business Building. The Care Center aims to be a resource that anyone affiliated with the Broad College of Business can utilize to access a variety of supplies, ranging from basic necessities such as food, water and personal hygiene items, to household cleaning supplies.

Young generations in America are growing up in a world where school shootings are recurrent. On Feb. 13, 2023, a mass shooting occurred on Michigan State University's campus, taking the lives of three students. Since then, many have reacted differently to stories of shootings and other acts of terror presented in the media.

Microaggressions at Michigan State University take a significant toll on students' mental health and academic performance, creating a pervasive sense of "otherness" that affects their ability to fully engage in campus life. Through personal resilience and calls for institutional change, students are pushing for a more inclusive environment that fosters understanding and respect.

Local horticulture experts discuss the various mental and physical health benefits of keeping houseplants in your living or work space.

Health Vending Machine installed at MSU’s Union

In a move to enhance student health, Michigan State University has installed a health vending machine in its Student Union, spearheaded by East Lansing Free Emergency Contraceptives (EL FREE EC). It offers a range of reduced-priced items and life-saving resources like Narcan, pregnancy tests, over-the-counter pain relievers and more.

Gender-affirming supplies for T-REx students now available

Free gender-affirming supplies are now available for trans, nonbinary and gender-diverse students at MSU, as the result of a collaboration between The Gender and Sexuality Campus Center (GSCC) and University Health and Wellbeing (UHW). The goal is to allow for an increase in inclusivity, belongingness, empowerment and well-being.

Kinesiology BIPs give students active class opportunities

The Department of Kinesiology offers 48 different BIP courses of various sports available for students to enroll in each semester. Taking these courses gives students a specified time for physical activity in their busy college schedules, allowing them to enjoy the various health benefits of staying active.
