Outside of seeing the flailing arms of basketball head coach Tom Izzo’s wife, Lupe Izzo, while shooting a video of the final defensive stop, head coach Tom Anastos didn’t see much of senior linebacker Kyler Elsworth’s Rose Bowl-clinching stop.

MSU upsets U-M, 3-0, in Great Lakes Invitational

DETROIT — MSU (6-9-2, 0-1-1-1 B1G) used great goaltending and two third period goals to cruise to an upset against No. 3 Michigan (10-4-2, 2-0-0 B1G) 3-0 in the consolation game of the 49th annual Great Lakes Invitational on Saturday night at Comerica Park in Detroit.

MSU enters final game before holiday break against No. 4 Ferris State

Coming off potentially its best series of the season, MSU (5-8-1, 0-1-1-1 B1G) will look to keep the momentum going in its final contest before the holiday break as in-state foe No. 4 Ferris State (13-2-3, 10-0-2 WCHA) travels to Munn Ice Arena Saturday night. Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. The matchup between the two former Central Collegiate Hockey Association members will have extra significance, also serving as the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game with former MSU head coach and athletic director Ron Mason being recognized.

Ice hockey dominates Princeton, 8-2

MSU used a scoring flurry in the 1st and 2nd periods and multiple goal games out of freshman forward Villiam Haag and senior forward Greg Wolfe to win at home, 8-2. The dominant victory completed the sweep of the Princeton Tigers (3-10, 2-6 ECAC).

MSU hopes to find offense as Princeton comes to Munn

MSU (3-7) will look to generate more offense and snap a four-game losing streak this weekend, as it welcomes the Princeton Tigers (3-8, 2-6 ECAC) to Munn Ice Arena for the final non-conference series before Big Ten play begins. The puck will drop between the two teams at 7:00 p.m.

Hockey hopes to see boost as Berry, Draeger return

Not a whole lot has been going right so far this season for MSU (3-7) after dropping two more games this past weekend to extend the team’s current losing streak to four, but the return of a couple Spartan stars could change the team’s fortune. Both junior forward Matt Berry and sophomore defenseman John Draeger made their first appearances of the season Friday night against Western Michigan after missing the first eight games of the season because of lower body injuries.

MSU hockey loses to Western, 4-1

MSU (3-7) dropped its fourth straight game Saturday night as the Western Michigan Broncos (5-5-2, 2-2 NCHC) thumped the Spartans, 4-1. WMU completed the sweep of the Spartans in the home-and-home series, scoring early and often Saturday night at Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich.

MSU hockey drops home game versus Western Michigan

The return of junior forward and last season’s leading scorer Matt Berry and sophomore defenseman John Draeger was spoiled Friday night with a 2-0 loss to in-state rival Western Michigan Broncos. MSU dropped the first of a two-game home-and-home series at Munn Ice Arena Friday night, with the Broncos shutting out the Spartans, 2-0.

MSU hockey hosts Western Michigan

After a week off, the MSU hockey team returns to action with a home-and-home series with Western Michigan this weekend. The Spartans (3-5 overall) and Broncos (3-5-2, 2-2 NCHC) will face off at 7:05 p.m. at Munn Ice Arena on Friday night before heading to Kalamazoo, Mich., for a matchup at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Lawson Ice Arena.
