RHA movies begin at Wells

Residence Hall Association movies are back up to speed, with “Rush Hour 2” and “Shallow Hal” kicking off the holiday weekend. Movies are free to students living in residence halls and $2 for the general public. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan do their best impression of the “Odd Couple” as they attempt to solve a murder with international implications while trying to stop its connection to a counterfeit ring. In “Shallow Hal,” Jack Black takes a new approach to finding Ms. Right by looking for the inner beauty in women, with the help of self-improvement guru Tony Robbins. It’s a positive message that makes you realize looks don’t mean everything. On Friday “Rush Hour 2” shows at 7 p.m.

Designer brings experience, new ideas to U productions

The MSU Department of Theatre’s fall productions are about to get a brand new look.Kirk Domer, the department’s newest faculty member, is fresh out of graduate school from the University of Wisconsin and hopes to bring a different slant to a position previously held by Stan Jensen.“Basically, it’s lighting versus set design,” Domer said while relaxing in his basement office among miniature scenery models for “West Side Story” and Aristophanes’ “The Birds.” “Scenery and lighting design are often grouped together.

It’s that time of the year again when music’s best performers come in swingin’ to win the coveted moon man. The 2002 MTV Video Music Awards will bring many popular music acts under one roof today, with performances by Bruce Springsteen, Ja Rule and the distressing solo debut of “‘Nstink’s” Justin Timberlake. This year’s show is hosted by Jimmy Fallon, who must have done a good job co-hosting with Kirsten Dunst during last year’s movie awards, because MTV decided he could tackle the job alone.

U-Fest entertains crowd with local favorites, sumo wrestling

Two sumo wrestlers collided with monstrous force Friday, toppling each other into the unforgiving floor. The silence was broken when muffled laughter from under the excess baggage was liberated as the suit came off and the frail body within stepped out - victorious. The University Activities Board provided 14 free activities for students to lose themselves in at the 26th Annual U-Fest at the Union. The energetic students were allured by the bouncy boxing and sumo wrestling, that students found to be some of the most amusing and embarrassing activities. For the more artistic bunch, there was a craft area, caricatures, airbrush tattoos, wax hands and palm and tarot card readings.
