Students microdose to study and clear their minds

Usually when she’s studying, MSU junior Shelby will chunk out exactly what she wants to accomplish and will leave her phone somewhere far away from her so she can focus. Other times, when she’s really got to buckle down and focus, she’s employs a study method called microdosing she said. According to Collective Evolution, microdosing is a trend that’s growing more popular in places like SIlicon Valley. Microdosing means to, “take small amounts of psychedelics during the day in order to enhance focus, creativity, patience, and connection to others” according to the website.

MSU graduate student lands first place in International student essay contest

The Office for International Students and Scholars, or OISS, and the Office of Study Abroad, or OSA, teamed up for the 14th consecutive year to invite students to enter an essay contest where students who have studied abroad or are international students at MSU could share their experiences. Each office held their own contest and chose three winners based on his or her essay.

Handball club driven by former player, now coach

MSU Club Handball head coach Carl Valentino has seen six national championships throughout his career — two of them having occurred in the previous eight years — a national handball coach of the year award in 2013 and five individuals who are national champions under his tutelage.

East Lansing holds annual Winter Glow

East Lansing’s annual Winter Glow took place this past Saturday from 2-5 p.m. Winter Glow was located in Ann Street Plaza, Fountain Square and inside the East Lansing Marriott.  The Winter Glow is provided by the City of East Lansing and is sponsored by the East Lansing Downtown Management Board, MSU Federal Credit Union and East Lansing Art Commission.  Students and local residents gathered to enjoy live ice carving and ice sculpture walk, free carriage rides, winter barnyard, special outdoor holiday farmer's markets, heated music tents, marshmallow roastings, hot chocolate, and more.

Electronic music artist uses trombone to express his talent

Students have many opportunities to showcase their talent with Open Mic Night, which is usually held every other Tuesday throughout the school year. MSU electrical engineering senior, Mike Giles is no stranger to the Open Mic Night stage as he has performed at the MSU Union main lounge this year on several different occasions.

Improv players find friends through group

A group of 12 improv players had attendees grabbing their sides with laughter. Mechanical engineering senior Matthew Schomisch, the director of the Roial Improv Players, said he wants to bring laughter to a campus that has been on edge.
