I would just like to commend Rishi Kundi for his stance on the gay marriage issue (“Gay marriage not complex issue to understand,” SN 1/31). I feel it is about time someone stepped back and took a look at issues like this. I have been arguing this issue for years and have seemed to be on the losing side every time, however, my beliefs would not let me quit.
Astronaut. President. Quarterback. Fireman. When you probe the minds of elementary schoolchildren as to what they want to be - when they grow out of finger-painting and enter the real world - these are the responses they sling at you.
Rishi Kundi’s article on gay marriage was excellent and indirectly addresses a major problem with some laws today, including the violation of separation of church and state (“Gay marriage not complex issue to understand,” SN 1/31). It makes sense religious objection should dictate whether same-sex couples are married by a priest in a church that condemns homosexuality.

I’m confused. On Jan. 24, The State News published an article that covered the MSU Students for Life vigil at Beaumont Tower (“Abortion vigil stirs student debate,” SN 1/24). The vigil was held by pro-life students Jan.
I thought my opinion of the authorities could not get any worse. I had sour feelings about the police at age 15, when I would crouch in an alley at 10:30 on Saturday nights, hiding from police who enforced a strict curfew.

The Residence Halls Association has been leading the fight to have peepholes implemented into the residence halls for over ten years. I personally have been involved in many intense discussions and debates concerning the battle for peepholes the last two years - last year as an Akers Hall representative, and this year as the Asian Pacific American Student Organization representative for RHA. We have spent countless long, hard hours working with the Department of Residence Life, University Housing, the administration, Michigan State and East Lansing police departments and many other groups and institutions to get where we are today - to ensure that peepholes could be installed in all of the residence halls. The State News must stop sensationalizing its stories.
I’ve been writing this column for a year now. Admittedly, I occasionally have an opinion on something, but most of the time, I try to make you laugh. Judging from the letters I’ve gotten, I’ve been successful in doing that.
I was recently disturbed by Ebuni N. Mosley’s letter, “Jackson cartoon was degrading” (SN 1/26). What you fail to realize is Bilicki’s cartoons poke fun at those in the political spotlight, regardless of race or ethnic background. Your letter illustrates a growing problem in America.
Wondering whether John Ashcroft would enforce laws he doesn’t believe in if he becomes attorney general?
This is in response to Ebuni N. Mosley’s letter “Jackson cartoon was degrading” (SN 1/26). I have to begin by saying that Mosley completely missed the point of Justin Bilicki’s cartoon in last Wednesday’s paper. Bilicki’s cartoon in no way depicts black people in a negative manner.
I would like to quickly address the issue that was raised with regards to RHA’s lack of effort on the issue of peepholes (“Safe living,” SN 1/24). First, I would like to begin by stating a few facts. One, the resolution that RHA passed supporting peepholes was passed unanimously in fall of 1999.
Apparently I didn’t get the e-mail that the university was conducting open tryouts for the Spartan Hockey Team.
The addition of new Integrative Studies in Arts & Humanities classes is long overdue at MSU.Undergraduate students are required to take two IAH courses unless they are enrolled in the Honors College, James Madison or placed out of the requirement.
