Last year, men's college basketball fans had their hearts broken when the NCAA March Madness Tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the best sports competitions of the year was done before it even started. The near-month long celebration of college basketball would have to be put off until 2021.

According to a report by ESPN, Michigan State University has recommended a ban of former basketball player Brock Washington due to sexual misconduct. This would result in Washington being permanently banned from taking any classes at the university as well as a two year ban from campus.

Michigan State basketball’s recruiting streak continues with 2021 four-star point guard Jaden Akins committing to the Spartans over Michigan, Florida, DePaul, and Mississippi State. Akins, according to 247Sports, is the second-highest rated player in the state of Michigan, trailing only Pierre Brooks, who is also an MSU commit.

Michigan State University athletics announced temporary pay cuts Thursday for any staff member making $100,000 or greater for the next year. MSU Athletic Director Bill Beekman will be taking a 10% pay cut, head men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo and head football coach Mel Tucker will each take a 7% pay cut.

2021 five-star shooting guard Max Christie had verbally committed to Michigan State after fielding offers from Villanova, Virginia, Purdue and Ohio State. Christie joins 2022 five-star forward Emoni Bates as the second five-star recruit to join Tom Izzo’s squad in the last week when Bates announced his verbal commitment last Monday.

After years of recruiting disappointments with guys like Jabari Parker and Vernon Carey Jr, Tom Izzo finally got his guy when he landed the top prospect from the 2022 high school graduating class Emoni Bates. That description of Bates probably does not do him justice considering the 16-year-old from Ypsilanti, Michigan is one of just seven players to receive a perfect rating by 247Sports, joining the likes of LeBron James, Dwight Howard and Greg Oden.
