The No. 11 Michigan State Spartans (6-3), looking to bounce back from a lackluster performance and loss against No. 10 Duke, started their Big Ten play on Sunday evening, welcoming Rutgers (6-3) to the Breslin Center. The green and white were able to pull away as the second period ran down securing a 77-65 victory in what was a back-and-forth bout through a majority of the game.

In the midst of success for Golden State Warriors power forward and three-time NBA champion Draymond Green, the Michigan State alumnus will make a trip back to East Lansing on Dec. 3 for the retirement of his No. 23 jersey. Green will become the 10th player in Michigan State history to have their jersey retired.

After falling to Virginia Tech in the Maui Invitational, the Michigan State Spartans dropped from No. 3 to No. 11 in the latest AP poll. The Spartans were able to defeat Georgia and UCLA in the Maui Invitational to prevent free falling to the bottom of the polls.

The Spartans (4-2) competed in the consolation round of the Maui Jim Maui invitational against Georgia (4-2) Tuesday afternoon, in a game that many expected to be the semifinal matchup. After a strong first half performance from the Spartans that hinted at a blowout, the Bulldogs pushed back, behind freshman guard Anthony Edwards' 37-point night in the second. Michigan State's early lead and persistence through the second period provided just enough to secure the win, 93-85.

After rolling both of his ankles last Thursday against No. 13 Seton Hall, it still looked as if sophomore forward Aaron Henry would still play in Monday’s matchup against Charleston Southern. Henry continued to play after his injury last Thursday and warmed up with the Spartans Monday night, but when it came to the announcement of the starting lineup, sophomore forward Gabe Brown was in his place.
