It was a similar scene for the MSU hockey team heading into the third and final period in the third place game of the Great Lakes Invitational, or GLI. The Spartans were staring at a 4-1 deficit with just 20 minutes of game time left against in-state rival University of Michigan. But a furious comeback attempt from the Spartans would have them typing it up four goals apiece with just 2:10 left, eventually falling in overtime to the Wolverines, 5-4.

The MSU hockey team graced the rink as the icers faced off against No. 16 Western Michigan, ultimately falling to the Broncos in a blowout, 4-1.

MSU hockey head coach Tom Anastos said during his weekly press conference Tuesday that he was anxious to see how his team would respond after wins over Ferris State and a win and a draw against North Dakota. He got his answer Friday night as the Spartans fell 4-2 to No. 11 Minnesota.

The MSU hockey team is slated to face off against No. 11 University of Minnesota to begin Big Ten conference play this upcoming weekend. After posting a winning 3-2-1 record in November, the Spartans will be hampered by injuries in their effort to repeat their winning ways in December.
