'It is always more than land': NAISO and ILSO lead Indigenous Peoples Day march

The North American Indigenous Student Organization (NAISO) and the Indigenous Latinx Student Organization (ILSO) led a march from Beaumont Tower to the Hannah Administration Building for Indigenous People's Day on Monday, Oct. 10. There, they served an eviction notice for it's occupation of Anishinaabeg lands.

From there they marched to the rock where ancestors from across the state led prayer and spoke on indigenous issues that students face at Michigan State and beyond the university.

"It is always more than land that settlers will seek to steal," member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Jamie John said. "It is culture, it is traditions, it is our life ways, waters, resources and relationships."

"As long as you are on stolen land, it will always be Indigenous People's Day," John said.
