SAD: Chilling Spirits

When music education senior Bryce Berry’s friend visited family in Arizona, he felt better than he had in months. After returning to Michigan, Berry’s friend was diagnosed with seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

“Seasonal affective disorder is a depression that occurs during certain months of the year,” said Leigh White, M.D., assistant director of psychiatry services at Olin Health Center. Depending on the severity of the symptoms there are different treatments, which include psychotherapy, light therapy and medication, White said.
