Students at Akers Hall have begun to notice mice in the dorms, and word is spreading.
On Feb. 7, the first sighting was rumored to have been seen at 11 a.m. Finance preference first-year Nathan Nazareno was called over to West Akers by one of his cousins, who said that there was a mouse in her dorm room.
He said when he got there he found the mouse under the fridge, so he, his cousin and her roommates tried to barricade it underneath, but it slipped away.
“We think it might be coming from the vents because there are a lot of holes in the vents,” Nazareno said.
The MSU Class of 2026 Snapchat story has had many posts of mice sightings at Akers Hall. Pre-nursing freshman Shailee Sanghvi, who lives in Akers, has also been hearing about these mice from her friends. She’s seen the Snapchat stories herself.
“I know there are mice on the fourth floor of West Akers,” Sanghvi said. “People are just saying that they’re really scared of the mice being there.”
Sanghvi said she hasn’t heard of anything being done to take care of this problem.
Bethany Balks, the Associate Director for Communications of Residence Education and Housing Services, said there have been no pest-related maintenance requests from East Neighborhood submitted this semester.
“We strongly encourage students to complete an online maintenance request if there are pests such as mice in the halls!" Balk said in an email. "The link is https://liveon.msu.edu/maintenance.”
