Hospitality business junior Guadalupe Huapilla-Perez has been identified as one of the five hospitalized victims of Monday's mass shooting in a GoFundMe set up by her family.

Her sister, Selena Huapilla-Perez, created the GoFundMe to raise money for hospital costs and compounding expenses. According to the page, Huapilla-Perez's family, who are migrant workers, are traveling to Michigan from their home in Florida to be with her.

"Lupe was one of the victims injured in the recent attack at Michigan State University. While we are happy that Guadalupe remains with us, we are devastated by the violence that has impacted so many. This unfortunately includes our family," Selena Huapilla-Perez said in a fundraiser post.

Selena Huapilla-Perez said the family is seeing hospital costs that will burden them during an already difficult time, as the family is away from home, unable to work and Huapilla-Perez does not have insurance

"Doctors tell us that even in improving conditions, the process for a full recovery will take months of care and subsequent rehabilitation," Selena Huapilla-Perez said in the fundraiser. "Our family hopes you can help us recover in more ways than one."

Guadalupe Huapilla-Perez is the Native American and Hispanic Business Students community service chair, a Sigma Lambda Gamma sorority member and part of the MSU College Assistance Migrant Program.

"She is a leader in the community and beyond. Lupe is incredibly hard-working, focused, and ambitious, choosing a career path that's never been explored in our family. It allows her to travel, learn, and challenge herself. She's always one to stand up for our community and speak out for those marginalized voices like our own," Selena Huapilla-Perez said in a fundraiser post.

Guadalupe Huapilla-Perez graduated Immokalee High School in May 2020. As class president, she organized a car parade to safely celebrate her peers' achievement amid the COVID-19 pandemic. On her truck were class of 2020 balloons and a MSU flag.
