Human biology junior Samara Zinnerman said she decided to run for president because she has a huge passion for Greek leadership and unity between the Divine 9 organizations.
The NPHC is the presiding council for the Black Greek Letter organizations, also referred to as the Divine 9, on campus.
Those organizations include Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity,
A member from each organization is encouraged to fill a position on the board. With the exception of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. every organization is represented.
Jalen Tate, fourth-year experience architecture student said, "As a new member of the NPHC I wanted to make sure I get involved and try to participate in getting stuff done and making a difference on campus."
One thing that the entire board agreed on is to promote unity between the Divine 9 organizations.
Communications sophomore Brandon Foster said, "We want to bring each other together and we want to unify the yard. When the yard is unified it's all better."
As President, Zinnerman hopes to put on more events and promote collaborations between the organizations within the NPHC. She said next year campus can expect to see more Greek Unity and community service from the NPHC.
"I want people to know that we're not just people who stroll," Zinnerman said. "We represent so much more. We do community service, we build upon brotherhood and sisterhood."
