Meijer is scheduled to sponsor the Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) to provide free COVID-19 testing for those in the 48911 zip code or those working at the Meijer warehouse June 17.

According to the Facebook flyer, the event will be taking place at the Abundant Grace Faith Church, 5750 S. Cedar St., from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

While it's said to specifically target the above at-risk communities, there is also availability for those in the surrounding areas to get tested whether they are presenting symptoms or not.

People can either drive or walk up and receive a viral (active infection) test.

Everyone who gets tested will receive both prevention and safety information, as well as a "swag bag" with a Meijer gift card.

According to an MSU Today article, test results will remain private and will be communicated directly to each individual by an ICHD representative.

This is not the first time an event like this has taken place. The ICHD has been identifying areas where data shows higher risks for disease spread and scheduling events accordingly, Michigan State University communications director Melody Kindraka said.

Linda Vail, ICHD health officer, said that her organization is providing the testing, staff and all resources or educational materials to expand their public health message, while MSU is providing their clinical staff to collect the samples and return the results to the ICHD.

Other sponsors of this event include the Ingham County Sheriff Emergency Operation Center, the Barry-Eaton District Health Department and the city of Lansing.
