Following MSU’s harrowing victory over Iowa in the Big Ten championship game, the Spartans were in the minds of many pundits, a lock for the College Football Playoff.
Tickets for the 2015 Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic are on sale now and purchasing options and information are available from the university. However, placing an order for tickets with the Spartan Ticket Office is merely a request and not a guarantee to receive tickets.
The deadline to request tickets through the Spartan Ticket Office for Spartan Fund Donors, University Donors, season ticket holders, and students is Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. Ticket requests for the general public and alumni begin Dec. 10 and tickets will remain available until sold out.
However, each request will be filled based on a priority hierarchy.
Here is a breakdown of how the process works.
Where to go:
Spartan fans have three ways to buy tickets. Go to www.msuspartans.com, click the tickets tab and sign into their ticket account. Call or visit the Spartan Ticket Office at (517) 355-1610 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Cost:
Ticket prices for the game are $240 for club seats, $150 for a reserved seat and $75 for a student ticket. A $15 processing fee is added to student tickets bringing the total to $90. Fans may also request a parking pass for the 2015 Cotton Bowl. Those run $45 per pass.
Priority:
Spartan Fund Donors and University Donors have first priority and are subject to an additional priority hierarchy also based on donor level and then Spartan Points in each individual level. Second priority falls to season ticket holders who are not Spartan Fund Donors or University Donors. Third and final priority belongs to the public and alumni.
Students are not subject to this priority hierarchy as students are allotted a student block of tickets. Currently there are 500 student tickets available for students to request. If more than 500 students request tickets, a lottery system will be used to determine which students receive tickets.
MSU students with student football season tickets will be given priority. Also, if more than 500 students request tickets, 750 tickets will become available in a section adjacent to the student section for $150. A $15 processing fee will be added onto the purchase of student tickets.
On Dec. 8 after 10 p.m. fans and students who requested tickets will receive an email approving or denying their requests. Fans and students who were denied tickets will receive a refund. Tickets will be mailed out by Dec. 16 and will be delivered no later than Dec. 24.
Fans wanting to refund tickets are asked to email the Spartan Ticket Office with a request to cancel their tickets by Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. $25 will be subtracted from the refund. Students who purchase one of the additional 750 tickets, if the 500 request limit is exceeded, will not be refunded.
The Spartan Ticket Office anticipates having no issues filling requests, according to the press release sent out Sunday. This comes on the heels of a controversy surrounding the purchasing of student tickets for the Big Ten championship game.
Students were only given hours to purchase tickets compared to the two days or so they have to purchase tickets for the playoff game. The tickets also were available for purchase before the 9 p.m. opening, causing many devoted students to miss out on tickets for following Spartan Ticket Office directions.
