Muskegon High senior and MSU basketball commit Deyonta Davis has been named a McDonalds All-American. One of 24 players selected to the nation's all-star squad, Davis acts as Tom Izzo’s twelfth All-American and fourth since 2010.
Ranked No. 16 in the nation by ESPN, Davis will play for the West Team on April 1 at the United Center in Chicago.
Having blossomed into a five-star recruit, Davis looks to replenish the Spartans duo of depleted big men in the coming year. Averaging 20 points, 16.9 rebounds, and 7.5 blocks per game, Davis emulates the dexterities of former Spartan standout Adreian Payne.
Having a thin 6-foot-9 frame, the West Michigan product has developed a promising shot, as he tends to play best as a face-up-4-man. But it is his athleticism and ability to block shots that will most likely earn his clock.
After leading Muskegon High to a Class A state title and a 28-0 record in the 2013-2014 season, Davis is accustomed to winning.
A member of MSU’s top 15 ranked recruiting class, along with guards Matt McQuaid and Kyle Ahrens, Davis could play an important role in the Spartans' future success.
