The Spartans' 77-70 loss against Northwestern on Sunday at 3 p.m. for the second time this season added to their losing streak, now 5 games in a row.
After MSU started the game in the lead, a 20-point run by Northwestern in the middle of the first half brought down the Spartans' energy to catch up again. Redshirt sophomore Aerial Powers, who scored a career-high 35 points in the 71-67 loss against Nebraska on Friday, was the leading scorer in this game with 24 points, finding her rhythm late in the second half.
Northwestern sophomore Ashley Deary followed Powers, scoring 18 points.
Deary carried the Wildcats throughout the whole game with quick feet and ease penetrating the Spartan defense.
With a little under two minutes left in the game, sophomore Tori Jankoska made all three free throws and decreased Northwestern's lead to only two points, a 70-68 game.
Although the Spartans' energy was up at the end of the game, Inman scored four points and brought the Wildcats' lead to six points, shooting down MSU's chances to turn the game around.
Despite the strong start, MSU struggled with getting back and guarding after they scored.
The Spartans are now 8-8 in the season. Their 12-year double-digit conference wins streak is on jeopardy this season, now that the Spartans accumulated a 0-5 Big Ten record.
MSU will try to break their five-game losing streak, when they host Illinois on Thursday at 7 p.m.
