After 13 games of commanding one of the nation’s most feared defenses, defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi was named as Broyles Award winner.
Narduzzi is the first MSU coach to win the award that is given to the nation’s top assistant coach in its 18 year history.
The defense of the No. 4 Spartans placed in the top 10 nationally for least passing yards (2,089) and rushing yards (1,205) allowed. MSU also led the Big Ten in scoring defense (12.7 points per game) and total defense (248.2 yards per game).
After competing in the 100th Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, the next chapter in Narduzzi’s future is unclear. Narduzzi is seen by many as an option for programs in need of a head coach.
