Video Story: Zeke the Wonder Dog, magician kick off E.L. weekly park event

July 16, 2013

Summer is in full swing and the month of July has brought on the heat. With the city of East Lansing’s Play in the Park series starting Tuesday, families have a new way to make the most of the summer.

Play in the Park is an interactive children’s entertainment series that takes place at 7 p.m. every Tuesday in July at Valley Court Park, 280 Valley Court.

Last Tuesday, the kickoff event with Zeke the Wonderdog, MSU’s beloved frisbee-catching pup, was postponed until this week because of inclement weather, said Ami Van Antwerp, communications coordinator for the city of East Lansing. The show was coupled with the Joel Tacey Magic Show, on Tuesday.

Some of the other events coming up in July include Mary Jane Heppner-Gamble’s Creative Dance, taking place on July 23. The program is designed to help children find their rhythm and discover dance skills.

“With music in the park, she teaches the kids to dance as a creative dance instructional program,” Van Antwerp said.

The final event, on July 30, will be The Amazing Clark Puppet Show.
Van Antwerp said they expect to see around 100-200 heads at each event.

“We see a lot of people walk to the events,” Van Antwerp said. “They come with other families, they come with picnics. They make a night out of it.”
