Officials respond to small fire at Spartan Village Apartments

A small fire took place in Spartan Village Apartments the night of June 29, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. There were no injuries and it is still unknown how the fire started.

The incident started when a mattress caught on fire and began creating smoke. The fire department responded and was able put it out before any serious damage could happen. The mattress was damaged and disposed of on the scene and there was also damage to some bed sheets and a purse.

Witnesses included a 40-year-old, 17-year-old, 13-year-old, 10-year-old and 7-year-old females. There are no suspects.
