Following a full season of MSU basketball can be stressful. Shooting a full season of MSU basketball is enough to drive you insane.

As photojournalists, we strive to use still images to capture the intensity of all 40 minutes of game play as well as the little details that happen in between.

This year’s team was particularly interesting to document. With a strong batch of freshmen and core of veterans stepping into new leadership roles, it was tough to say what this team would be from the onset.

In a season of ups and downs that included a top-10 national ranking and near-championship run in the Big Ten as well as an exit in the Sweet 16, the MSU’s men’s basketball team transcended the expectations of many onlookers but fell sorrowfully short of their own.

Putting such a season into words is tough to do, so we’d rather let the photos speak for themselves.

The following are The State New photo staff’s picks for the top images from this past season.
