Women's basketball leads Michigan, 30-25, at halftime of Big Ten tournament second round game

March 8, 2013

After one half of play in the women’s Big Ten Basketball tournament, the MSU women’s basketball team leads Michigan 30-25.

Junior guard Klarissa Bell led the Spartans with 12 points, and sophomore center Jasmine Hines chipped in eight points of her own.

U-M’s Jordan Nya and Jenny Ryan each pulled down five rebounds to contribute to the 14 the Wolverines had in the first half, but the Spartans still won the battle on the boards with 16 rebounds, led by senior forward Courtney Schiffauer with four.

Halfway through the period, redshirt freshman Akyah Taylor was knocked to the floor, and was helped to the locker room. She did not return to the bench.

MSU led by as many as 10, but the Wolverines caught fire late, scoring five of the last seven points to keep the game within reach.

U-M started the game 0-10 from behind the arc, but hit two big shots late in the half. MSU finished 2-6 from behind the arc.
