The $12 million purchase of the Grand Rapids Press headquarters officially was completed last month.
The MSU Board of Trustees first approved the purchase of the location at its January board meeting.
MSU Trustee Melanie Foster said the spot was an ideal location, just blocks away from the MSU College of Human Medicine’s Grand Rapids campus at the Secchia Center. However, the specific use of the location has yet to be decided, Foster said.
“It has value as we look to the future,” she said. “Particularly as we expand with medical research.”
Trustee Mitch Lyons said in a previous State News article the purchase won’t just have an effect on MSU, but Michigan itself.
“We’re trying to create a bigger impact and footprint in west Michigan,” Lyons said.
