AT&T improves service

September 23, 2012

AT&T users on campus might experience better call connectivity and faster internet service due to upgrades made at the end of August.

According to an AT&T press release, the upgrade increased the frequency layers, or carriers, of four cell sites on campus.

“We always look for opportunities to improve service for our customers, and know the importance of having a quality network on campus,” Jermaine Spight, senior public relations manager for AT&T Michigan, said in an email.

Spight said there were no specific complaints, but AT&T was alert to the need for renovations.
“(We were) well aware of some challenges on campus due to signal interference in dorms and around campus,” Spight said. “Our technology has to be strengthened to ensure quality service in dorms and educational facilities.”

Spight said the locations on campus were chosen based on data and the areas with the most usage. He said this upgrade will not affect students and faculty under other wireless service providers.
