Alumnus wins Ultimate Spartan Challenge

September 26, 2012

After a month of fundraising, the winner of the Ultimate Spartan Challenge was announced Sept. 20.

The fundraiser collected more than $34,000 for Ele’s Place, 1145 W. Oakland Ave., in Lansing, a center that provides help for grieving children, according to a press release from Ele’s Place.

Challengers created a page on the website to convey their Spartan spirit. Users could vote for their favorite pages at $5 a vote from Aug. 20 to Sept. 19.

The Ultimate Spartan was Owosso, Mich., resident and MSU alumnus Michael Erfourth, who raised more than $7,550 for Ele’s Place.

The second place winner was Jessica Ewing, who raised more than $6,100.

On Erfourth’s page, he promised if he won any prizes he would donate them to someone at Ele’s Place.

Erfourth said on his Ultimate Spartan page his brother passed away when he was about 10 years old, and he wanted to give back to a child who is facing what he went through with his brother.

A lucky family at Ele’s Place received various prizes, including two passes to Dantonio’s suite and halftime sideline entrance for the football game against Eastern Michigan University on Sept. 22.
