Weekend roundup: March 30-April 1

March 29, 2012

It is almost the weekend. Classes are ending, and students are ready to unwind. Here is a roundup of events to attend during the weekend respite.

Roial Improv

MSU’s Roial Improv Players pride themselves in creating impromptu, “Whose Line Is It Anyway”-esque comedy routines, which they perform up to twice a month.

The players will host this month’s performance from 9 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at the RCAH Theatre in the basement of Snyder and Phillips halls.

The event costs $1 per person. All proceeds will be given to the East Lansing High School theater department’s memorial fund, which provides money to students who plan to pursue acting in college.

S.H.I.P. Shape 5k

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, the Lt. Philip Louis Bek Squadron of Arnold Air Society, a service organization within the MSU Air Force ROTC, will hold the S.H.I.P. Shape 5K fundraiser.

All proceeds will go to Sending Home In a Package, or S.H.I.P., an organization that sends packages and letters to those in the service overseas.

The race starts at the intersection of Auditorium Road and Farm Lane directly across from Bessey Hall. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and it will cost $25 per person to enter, with a T-shirt included in the fee. Participants also can register online for free until Friday.

Funkadellic Fever

From 9 p.m. to midnight Friday at Demonstration Hall, the University Activities Board will host Funkadellic Fever. The a free event will give participants the chance to roller skate to 70s music.

Students can either rent skates for free at the event or bring their own.

Throughout the night, there also will be a themed costume contest and free giveaways.

The event also will feature games, live entertainment and testimonies from children who have been helped through past fundraisers.

Cost for the event is donation-based. All proceeds from donations will go toward building a new children’s health care facility in the Lansing area.
