MSU leads Michigan, 30-22, at halftime

The No. 9 MSU men’s basketball team led by as many as 14 and never trailed in the first half against No. 23 Michigan as the teams head into the lockerrooms with the Spartans up 30-22.

The Spartans (17-5 overall, 6-3 Big Ten) lost, 60-59, in the first matchup between these teams Jan. 17 in Ann Arbor.

Freshman guard Branden Dawson, who scored four points just 12 minutes in the first meeting, leads MSU with seven points in the first half.

Senior forward Draymond Green, coming off a knee sprain in Tuesday’s game at Illinois, has six points, six rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes.

The Spartan defense limited Michigan guard Trey Burke to five points and two assists while forcing him to turn the ball over three times.

The Wolverines (17-6, 7-3) are led by guard/forward Zack Novak who has eight points.

U-M kept the score close with a 4-1 edge in 3-pointers, but is shooting 39 percent to the Spartans 59 percent.

Both teams have eight turnovers, but MSU has outrebounded the Wolverines 16-7.
