Weekend roundup: Dec. 9-11

It is almost the weekend. Classes are ending and students are ready to unwind. Here is a roundup of events to attend during the weekend respite.

“MSU’s Home for the Holidays Concert”

Some of the university’s talented artists will perform in “MSU’s Home for the Holidays Concert” at 8 p.m. Saturday in Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall. MSU’s Symphony Orchestra, State Singers, Men’s and Women’s glee clubs and the MSU Children’s Choir will perform a range of classic holiday tunes to celebrate the spirit of the season. Conducted by Leon Gregorian, the show also will feature guest soprano vocalist Molly Fillmore.

Tickets are $20 for general admission, $18 for seniors citizens age 60 and older and $10 for students.

De-stress Express

Olin Health Center’s Relaxation and Wellness Center is sponsoring a De-stress Express event from 9 p.m. to midnight in the parlor rooms of the Union.

Before finals week begins, the University Activities Board will host stress-relieving activities, including massage therapists from Massage and Wellness, 201 E. Grand River Ave., as well as board games and cookie decorating.

The cost for the event is free.

Freddy Todd and Skeetones

Dubstep artists Freddy Todd and Skeetones will be performing at 9 p.m. Saturday at Mac’s Bar, 2700 E. Michigan Ave., in Lansing.

Creating improvised remixes of their own songs, these groups provide an organic mix of hip-hop, electronic, jazz and dubstep tastes.

Tickets cost $10 for those ages 18-20 and $8 for those 21 and older.

Tiny Tim Afternoon Holiday Tea

The Tiny Tim Afternoon Holiday Tea event will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Wanderer’s Teahouse, 547 E. Grand River Ave.

On the menu are scones, Dickens tea delights and Victorian entertainment, as well as holiday ornaments to purchase.

Tickets are $18, and $9 for children ages 12 and under.

“Season of Light”

There will be a showing of “Season of Light” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Abrams Planetarium.

The show examines the meaning of a “Christmas Star” and explores other astronomical connections to traditions associated with this special season.

Tickets cost $3 for adults, $2.50 for students and seniors and $2 for children ages 12 and under.
