Cause unknown in student death

December 4, 2011

A 22-year-old male student was found dead at about 12:30 p.m. Friday by East Lansing police officers in his Cedar Village apartment, according to a press release from the East Lansing Police Department.

Two police officers went to the apartment after receiving calls from the building’s management to check on the welfare of a resident. The cause of death has not been determined, but foul play is not expected. An autopsy and toxicology report are pending.

This is the third student death of this nature in the past two weeks. Social relations and policy and secondary education junior Jessica Hockensmith in her Lansing home Nov. 23 and psychology senior Nick Charboneau died Nov. 28 in his home on the 200 block of Milford Street.

Officials said the three deaths are not related. Drugs are suspected in the death of Charboneau, East Lansing police Capt. Bill Mitchell said in a previous interview.
