For 19-year-old rap artist Mac Miller, no matter where his fans were sitting in the Auditorium during his Friday-night performance, he still could see every one of them.

Miller entered the Auditorium stage at 8 p.m. Friday for another stop on his Blue Slide Park Tour.

As the rap artist walked onstage, almost every member of the audience rose to their feet in excitement. Many in the front section left their seats entirely, crowding against the barriers in front of the stage.

For marketing freshman Allie Tenbroeck, Miller’s appreciation for his entire audience resonated with her. During the show, she stood in the back row of the upper section of the Auditorium – the furthest seat from the stage.

“He has people in the front, and he can talk to them,” she said. “But he still mentioned us (in the back) and made us feel special too.”

As kinesiology sophomore Alex Wietrick stood in the front row of the audience at Miller’s concert, he knew the artist would be a hit on the campus.

“He’s got really good rhymes,” he said. “I feel like a lot of people know what he’s talking about.”

Cathy Neuman, the Department of Student Life assistant director, said she has seen shows held at the Auditorium sell out before, but this sold-out performance was different.

“This one sold out in a week,” she said. “As you can see, there’s quite a mob.”

Dancing in the front row of the balcony, Colin DeVoe was thrilled every time Miller sang a song from his older albums. The business sophomore said he has been a fan of Miller from the beginning of the artist’s career.

“He followed his dreams like many students wish they could,” he said. “He can relate to us as college kids.”

Residence Halls Association Director of Special Events Rodney James said he was happy the students at Miller’s concert seemed to be having a good time.

James said the rapper made a small tour around campus earlier today.

“(Miller) was here early in the morning, then he walked down Grand River (Avenue) for a bit,” he said. “He was also at his hotel, probably catching up on some must-needed sleep.”

During the show, Miller performed a range of music from his old albums, such as popular hit “The Spins,” as well as music from his upcoming album, “Blue Slide Park,” which will be released Nov. 8.

The rapper also brought out his guitar and played English rock band Oasis’s “Wonderwall,” inviting members of his audience to sing along.

The concert had two opening performers, Casey Veggies and The Come Up. DJ Clockwork also made an appearance minutes before Miller came onstage.
