Preliminary admissions numbers presented to the MSU Board of Trustees last Friday indicate MSU’s overall enrollment is about 47,800 students this academic year, up about 2 percent from last year’s numbers.
Last year’s total enrollment was about 47,100 students.
The early estimate for this academic year is about 300 students above the school’s planned target of 47,500 students.
About 82 percent of students — or about 36, 580 members — at MSU this fall are undergraduates.
The university welcomed the largest freshman class in its history this year — about 7,815 students, according to the Office of Admissions. Almost 6,000 of those students are Michigan residents.
Final admissions numbers will be released later this September.
