Four undrafted former Spartans move quickly post lockout

July 26, 2011

With the NFL lockout coming to a close Monday after four and a half months of labor talks, teams and players finally were able to communicate and free agency officially began. And it didn’t take long for a number of familiar names for MSU fans to find new homes.

Receiver Mark Dell, linebacker Eric Gordon and offensive lineman D.J. Young all announced via Twitter Monday night that they had reached agreements with NFL teams. Dell, who caught 51 passes and six touchdowns last season, agreed to sign with the Denver Broncos, Young with the Arizona Cardinals and Gordon with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The trio of undrafted Spartans joined linebacker Greg Jones (New York Giants) and defensive back Chris L. Rucker (Indianapolis Colts) — both of whom were selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft — as members of MSU’s 2011 class to find NFL homes.

Tuesday, Charlie Gantt became the fourth undrafted Spartan to be picked up, when NFLdraftmonsters.com confirmed the tight end reached a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.
