Psychology sophomore Jeffrey Wisenbaugh started recording videos for YouTube in the basement of his parents’ house when he was 16 years old. In the time since Wisenbaugh, known as KoolJeffrey online, has grown into a YouTube celebrity with more than 17,000 people subscribing to his channel.
“I would look at the stories on Digg. … So I would read those, and I would go off and just say what I thought was funny. And, it wasn’t that funny,” Wisenbaugh said with a smirk. “I just saw YouTube, and I thought it was kind of cool that I could create videos and get an audience.”
He said he is grateful for YouTube and the opportunities it has afforded him.
“It’s a very great way to throw yourself out there, market yourself, do what you love to do for fun,” he said. “People always try to make it big from YouTube, but they don’t appreciate what YouTube is. The only reason I’m at where I’m at is because of the viewers who watch.“
