Despite a month of investigations there have been no arrests made regarding the shooting at Crossing Place Apartments, 3636 Coleman Road, East Lansing police Capt. Tom Johnstone said.
The shooting took place early in the morning on Dec. 11, 2010 and left Adrian House, a 20-year-old Detroit man, dead.
Johnstone said the East Lansing Police Department has received a few anonymous tips that it currently is looking into.
“We have received some tips and we are investigating them,” he said. “We have some leads we are investigating but we have made no arrests at this time.”
The East Lansing Police Department still is open to any and all tips, Johnstone said.
Corky Gatewood, vice president of marketing and professional development of Ambling Management, the company that owns Crossing Place, was unavailable for comment.
Criminal justice senior Alyssa Dickey, a resident of Crossing Place said she is not surprised no arrests have been made.
“It’s hard if you have nothing to go on,” Dickey said. “With the type of situation, a lot of people might not want to talk because maybe they were doing something they shouldn’t — underage drinking, drugs or anything like that.”
Dickey said she has not thought about the shooting much and she still feels safe living in Crossing Place.
Graduate student Dana Ferrari said she is uneasy about living in Crossing Place but does not believe the shooters will be a problem in the future.
“I doubt they’ll come back now,” Ferrari said. “They’re not from here anyway, so why would they have a reason to come back, especially if people are looking for them? As far as that situation goes, (it’s done).”
Ferrari is more concerned with the complex and the people living there rather than the shooters coming back. She feels other housing in the area are more secure.
“My boyfriend lives in the Club (at Chandler Crossings) and I feel a lot better staying over there than I do in this complex,” she said. “I used to live in the Landings (at Chandler Crossing) and they used to have a security guard walking around all night.”
Crossing Place did have a security guard for the days following the shooting, but students such as Ferrari said they would feel safer with a security guard patrolling the complex at all times.
Other students such as Dickey said they feel the complex already is safe and the incident was out of the complex’s control.
“We’re pretty safe here,” she said. “I’ve always considered us the safe version of Chandler (Crossings). It’s something that could have happened anywhere.”
