MSUFCU gives opportunity to win spring break prizes

January 20, 2011

An MSU Federal Credit Union, or MSUFCU, initiative called Financial 4.0 is hosting a campus scavenger hunt contest for members to increase their banking savvy and compete for a prize helpful for those going on a spring break trip.

Financial 4.0 was founded by MSUFCU a little more than a year ago with the aim to bring student awareness to finance. MSUFCU wanted to offer a unique education opportunity to student members of the credit union, said April Clobes, MSUFCU vice president of marketing.

“We wanted to have MSU students present the information in an interesting matter,” Clobes said. “(We) thought it would be a great way.”

The contest taking place, called the Spring Break Scavenger Hunt, first was brainstormed by three MSU students who author blogs for the credit union.

Members hoping to win the spring break prize need to solve riddles leading to specific local locations.

Once the riddle is solved, members must print a Financial 4.0 token from msufcu.org, take a photo of it at the correct location and upload the picture online.

The contest includes four riddles to solve and each riddle solved will allow members one submission for entry into the prize drawing. Clobes said the winner then will be chosen randomly.
The prize includes beach towels, travel accessories, an underwater camera and $100 in gift cards, Clobes said.

MSUFCU has held contests in the past, but this contest will get members most involved, Clobes said.

“We hosted other contests on the website,” Clobes said. “Some (have been) simple. If you leave a comment we will draw random winners. We have had a variety of different contests.”

Supply chain management sophomore Joel Wentzloff, an MSUFCU member, said he is pleased with the services MSUFCU offers students, but was unaware about the contest that the credit union is holding.

He said the contest is a good idea, but students might not participate because of how cold it is outside.

“I can see why a lot of people wouldn’t do (the contest), especially with the temperatures falling within the next few days,” Wentzloff said. “It would be hard to get a lot of people motivated.”

Human resource management senior Aggie Schubert signed up for Financial 4.0 after hearing about the Spring Break Scavenger Hunt contest.

“I am planning on doing it because I am a senior and planning on going on spring break,” Schubert said. “I think the prizes are clever. … Everyone is going to be planning on what they need to buy for their trip.”

The contest will be held until Feb. 18th.
