Icers swept at Notre Dame

November 21, 2010

The No. 17 MSU hockey team was swept for the second time on the road this season, this weekend against No. 11 Notre Dame.

The Spartans (4-5-3 overall, 1-4-1 CCHA) are now 0-4 on the road this season after the two-game series in South Bend, Ind.

Notre Dame (9-3-1, 7-2-1) dominated Friday’s game with a 6-2 victory.

Sophomore forward Derek Grant scored his second goal of the season after shaking off a slump to start the season last weekend against Ohio State. Junior forward Brett Perlini had assists on both the MSU goals to increase his team-leading point total to 13.

Saturday’s game was closer in a 4-2 score, including a late empty-net goal by the Fighting Irish.

Sophomore forward Dean Chelios netted his first goal of the season and sophomore defenseman Torey Krug scored his third.

The Spartans host Ferris State at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday before traveling to Minnesota and Wisconsin during the holiday weekend.
